Arthur Ernest Brooks was only 17 when he died on the Laurentic. He was in the Mercantile Marine Reserve and was working as a Ship’s Scullion.
His parents Rosina Connolly and Ernest Brooks married in West Derby in 1896. His brother Frederick Arnold was born on the 9th of October 1897 and Arthur Ernest was born on the 25th of April 1899 in West Derby. His christening record tells us the family were in Fordham and his father was a Barman.
In 1901 the family was living at 37 Fordham Street, Kirkdale. Ernest was working as a Barman (Licensed Victualler) and Rose was taking care of the two boys. Arthur wasn’t quite 9 and his brother Frederick was just 10 when his father Ernest died on the 19th January 1908.

In the 1911 Census 147 Netherfield Rd N Everton Liverpool Arthur’s mother is Rose Harvey married for 1 year, so she remarried to a Mr Harvey in 1910. She’s age 34 in 1911, born Liverpool. Occupation Cook Shop (Owner).
Arthur Ernest Brooks is commemorated on the memorial at St Lawrence’s C of E Church Kirkdale and on the Merseyside Roll of Honour (Service number: 113434). Body Not Recovered For Burial.
